So tonight I’m on The Pixies guest list at the Aragon Ballroom and get to sit in the VIP balcony section for the show.  This is only happening because Anna is covering the show for Spinner.  Interesting side note though:  I honestly don’t care about The Pixies.  Maybe seeing them live will change my opinion and feelings about them.  I just wish No Age was playing this date instead of Black Gold.

My +1 is bashing The Pixies!  Remind me why I date him again?  Hahaha ;)
I’m so excited for this show tonight.  The last time I saw The Pixies was May 1, 2004 at Coachella, so a little over five years ago.  It’s crazy to think it’s been that long since my first Coachella experience.

SPREAD IT AROUND!!!

is this for real??

Woot!

Sure, why not?

••••• Kinda lame if you ask us. Who wants to stand around the bean full of tourists in 50 degree weather? Not Billy —BP

This is lame.  December 19th at Millennium Park, really?  It’s only going to be extremely cold and possibly snowing.  Fuck that.  Also, someone needs to spell check their flyer.

No true Chicagoan wants to fucking go to Millennium Park.  Yes, two n’s.

Las Palmas

Rob and I have been to Las Palmas many times, but only for their amazing modern, up-scale Mexican cuisine.  Rob had eaten their brunch a few years ago and has been telling me for awhile how good it is, so we decided to venture over there and check it out this weekend.  The restaurant was almost entirely empty when we walked in around 12:30.  We snacked on their addictive chips and salsa and then feasted on our brunch selections.  I had the El Benito, which was a Mexican version of eggs benedict with chipotle hollandaise sauce and Rob had Huevos Rancheros.  Both were excellent and as you can tell from the pictures below, they were plated beautifully.  The best kept secret about Las Palmas’ brunch is how cheap it is.  My meal was $10 and Rob’s was $7.  For all of the food we received, you can’t beat a deal like that.

If you aren’t following Rob and I’s Chicago blog all I have to say to you is, why the hell not?

So depressing.  This is why I vow that I will not work in a cubicle 9-5 for the rest of my life.

[The Replacements - “Bastards of Young”]: Why has it taken me this long to really get into this band?  I’m an idiot.  They’re fucking great.  Also, the teenaged version of myself would have loved their songs so much.

Freelancing news

I never post about my freelance writing, but I figured this deserved a mention.  Today I wrote a story about Black Friday deals that leaked on the internet for the Chicagoist.  My editor just emailed me and it turns out that I doubled our average page views from 1,000 to nearly 3,000 and got 2,000 overall visits!  IN ONE HOUR!  All because people are typing “black friday ads” into Yahoo and getting a link to my story and clicking on it.  To put it into perspective, 1,000 visits/3,000 page views is what a normal weekday post gets for Chicagoist.  So my post basically doubled a good weekday post hour in visits and hit the goal for a weekday post hour in views.  On a weekend.

So totally awesome.

Bright Eyes - “False Advertising”

I remember when I listened to LIFTED or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground for the first time. It was just about the most beautiful thing I had ever heard.
